TORONTO CD LAUNCH
June 8, 2009 · Leave a Comment
James Finnerty returns to hometown Toronto to release a debut EP. Joined by local bluegrass favorites Makita Hack and the Log Rollers.

***
A melancholy marriage of hope and mystery… stranded on an island amidst one and a half million people… the music of James Finnerty weaves an old-time loom of warm guitars mixed with the immediacy of here and now. Lyrics are born from free association and restless, introspective politics. Acoustic guitar, soundstream vocals and electro-play humbly take their place, following the lead of the avant-garde, electro, americana, jazz, mod, post–punk and new wave movements of the past.

Midnight Poutine Podcast #110
March 26, 2009 · Leave a Comment

The Montreal Weekend Playlist Podcast is a weekly program that streams from the Midnight Poutine website. Hosted by the dour and serious Jeremy Morris, the Weekend Playlist features songs by bands playing in Montreal. This week’s show will feature a short segment on the James Finnerty EP launch.
The Montreal Weekend Playlist #110 will also air a semi-unreleased version of Letters in a Book (a rough mix can be found on the internet here) featuring Jean-Fred Lizotte on the violin.
Unfortunately the Midnight Poutine website was spammed by hackers recently (!!) so some of their links are not working. However, you can still listen to the podcast from the Midnight Poutine homepage.
This week’s program also features music from The Darcys, In Flight Safety, Julie Doiron, 100 Dollars, Howie Beck, FSK1138, Emma Lee, Friendly Fires & Los Campesinos!

Matthew De Zoete: Eastern Canada Tour
September 25, 2008 · Leave a Comment
James Finnerty to join Montreal & Quebec City Dates
On the verge of releasing his second full-length album, Hamilton’s Matthew De Zoete will begin the Eastern Canada leg of his tour in October after playing eastern USA, the Netherlands and Southern Ontario earlier this year. Local musicians James Correa & James Finnerty have been invited to join the bill for his Quebec City & Montreal shows.
The Montreal date has been confirmed at the Centre St-Ambroise Griffon Room on October 23rd at 8pm. Located at 5080-A rue St-Ambroise in Montreal’s south-west, the Centre St-Ambroise has quickly become a premier venue in Montreal for folk/roots and acoustic acts. It was recently nominated as Venue of the Year during the Salon de la Musique Indépendante de Montréal (SMIM). A tentative date has been scheduled on October 22 in Quebec City with details to follow.
Matthew de Zoete has been touring extensively throughout Canada, America, and the Netherlands, earning him a reputation for solid songwriting and dynamic performances that pull listeners deep into his music. He has shared the stage with artists including Great Lake Swimmers, Luke Doucet & Serena Ryder. He has performed at numerous festivals including North by Northeast, Indie Week Toronto, In the Dead of Winter (Halifax), Spring Arts Festival (Michigan) and the Hamilton Music Awards.
James Correa was born and raised in Montreal. He has traveled various parts of the world and been influenced by it’s multitude of styles and cultures to fuse a unique folk-based blend of pop, rock, eastern and soul. Correa tests the boundaries of pop expectations with a mix of the traditional and the new and a dramatic approach toward melody and arrangement.
Montreal based singer-songwriter James Finnerty creates acoustic guitar music that evokes the sound of artists like Kelly Joe Phelps, Nick Drake & Iron and Wine. His songs revolve around simple arrangements, contrasted with lyrics drawn from free association and introspective politics.
