James Patrick Finnerty (Born 17 February, 1978 in Toronto, Ontario) is a Montreal based musician and songwriter. After being expelled from high school for refusing to conform to a strict “no sneakers” policy, he found work as an actor and technician in several theatre and film productions in Toronto. Most recently he has settled down in Montreal and decided to shift directions, focusing solely on producing music.
The character of his music includes a balance of acoustic guitars, vocal harmonies and electro-play, inspired by contemporary psychedelic artists and the folk revival of the sixties. His songs revolve around simple instrumental arrangements with lyrics drawn from free association and restless, introspective politics.
Influenced by both contemporary and traditional artists, James Finnerty’s clear vocals and honest performance with quick improvisational fingerings on the acoustic guitar create a raw energy & warmth, inviting the listener into the creative process. The resulting music is soulful, intimate and earthy.
